 Isaan - pronounced E-sarn, this is the Northeastern region of 
 Thailand where the majority of prostitutes catering to foreigners come from.
 
  
 
 
Daruneenang says Thailand is finally changing. In 1996, the Prevention and Suppression of 
Prostitution Act was revised, but the usefulness of newly revised trafficking legislation is 
unclear, because there had been little effort to enforce it. In April 1999, two years after 
the revised Trafficking Act had been enacted, a high-ranking police officer in one of the 
provinces in northern Thailand -- where trafficking in women and girls from neighboring 
countries into Thailand is a significant problem -- insisted that no such law existed.
 
 
 
 
 
It is generally accepted that 500 baht  
is the lowest you will get a girl for - and generally speaking,  
Pattaya is the only place where the girls will happily accept that amount.
