1. Defining Pornography
To answer this question - what are the consequences of pornography for women-- I searched for a definition of pornography. The Random House Webster's College Dictionary defines pornography as:
por.nog.ra.phy, n. 1. Writings, photographs, movies, etc., intended
to arouse sexual excitement, esp. such materials considered as
having little or no artistic merit. 2. The production of such
materials; writing about harlots.
According to this definition, the only problem with pornography is that it's in bad taste. Pornography is defined as harmless and pleasurable to the reader or viewer. The omission of harm - who does the harm and to whom the harm is done -- is a dangerous oversight. Pornography is full of sexist, racist and homophobic ideologies that must not be overlooked.
